Y2K  If / Then  Table of Consequences

If
Then
No Railroad switchs work... No coal is delivered to power plants.
No electricity is generated... No traffic lights,
No lights period,
No telephones,
No 911,
No water from the faucet,
No burglar alarms,
No banks will be open,
No elevators going up or down in highrise buildings,
Civil Unrest,
Government could declare martial law & take control of nation's infrastructure per Executive Order #13010.
No traffic lights... Major traffic jams & accidents.
Widespread traffic accidents... Delayed emergency response, if any response.
No burglar alarms... Widespread looting.
No Gas pumps work... Stalled vehicles and delayed or cancelled deliveries.
Power Outage... Fear turns to panic buying & hoarding at grocery stores.
No guaranteed Y2K compliance for Nuclear Power Plants... Plants which provide 20% of nations power must shut down.
A few utility companies brown/black out... Due to Domino or Ripple effect, the drain on our national power grid could bring large sections of or the entire grid down.
No fire systems are compliant... State University Buildings (and others) must shut down.
If any 1 of these 4 critical and interdependent systems go down:
1. National Power Grid
2. Telecommunications
3. Transportation
4. Banking
They all go down. The number of possible points of failure is overwhelming.
People lose confidence in banks... Bank Holidays and restrictions declared. Chairman Greenspan informed Senator Bennett that the Fed is printing an extra ten billion in paper money to handle the run on the banks that is expected as people convert their money into cash before Y2K.
