Y2K, the most serious threat the world has faced.
INTRODUCTION TO Y2K / YEAR 2000 PROBLEM

What is the millenium bug?

How serious is Y2K?...VERY

With the advent of computer technology the cost of computer storage space was 10,000 times more than it is today. In order to save space, programmers used only 2 digits to store date codes instead of 4. Instead of reading the date as 1998, it is read as 98. The 19 is assumed. This inability to recognize 00 as anything other than 1900 will cause many computers to display anomalies or shut down completely. Though this may not affect your home PC, to some degree it will affect globally all the large mainframe computer systems that virtually keep the world running. What kinds of things could happen as a result of Y2K problems? United States Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem and have focused on the following eight areas:
  1. Utilities and the national power grid
  2. International banking and finance
  3. Health care
  4. Transportation
  5. Telecommunications
  6. Pension and mutual funds
  7. Emergency planning
  8. General business
The potential effect of the Y2K technology problem on any of these areas is unknown. Experts who spoke at the Senate hearings believe that there may be localized disruptions.

Over 50 Billion Chips Worldwide
Why can't someone create a program to fix this?

Y2K Computer Problem Toolkit by Craftsman

Though originally thought to be a software problem, programmers have since realized that the real problem is in the tens of billions of embedded chips that are used to control the operation of any system that requires a touch of machine intelligence. These chips are found in everything from fuel injection systems and VCRs to mammoth systems that run our power plants and transportation systems. They can be found anywhere from the North Sea to Satellite systems in space. Instead of using some automated tool, you have to use a person, often without the aid of the original plans to located all of these chips. The actual number of chips expected to fail is only 3 to 5%, but with 40 billion in existence there is much cause for concern.

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love and self discipline...
What can I do?

  • Attend Metro Year 2000 Task Force's upcoming seminars on disaster preparedness, Y2K, and financial concerns specific to Y2K so you can be better prepared for Y2K and any unexpected emergency.
  • Prepare spiritually. Study your bible and know in whom and in what you believe so you WILL be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks the reason for the hope that lies within you.
  • Fill out our volunteer questionnaire. There's much to be done and the time is short. We need your help!
What is Metro Church doing?

The Metro Year 2000 Task Force was formed to create awareness in regard to the severe and uncertain condidtions we might expect to result from the Y2K problems and provide instruction to the body and community on what can be done right now to be prepared for any emergency.

Metro Year 2000 Task Force Mission Statement

We, Metro Year 2000 Task Force, exist to allow Jesus to accomplish his will through his church by meeting the needs of the members of our community in times of emergency.
We specifically desire:
  • To further enable those who are currently self-sufficient to be prepared for any emergency.
  • To train and enlist those who are self-sufficient to be able to help and provide for those who are not.
  • To reconnect and rediscover a sense of community with the church as the focal point.
Pray for the best, Prepare for the worst.

The Christian Response to Y2K
Would you be prepared?

It's January 1st, 2000. You awake to find your electricity is out, your phone won't work and water doesn't flow from the tap. You head to the ATM to find that its not working either. You turn into the parking lot of the local market but when you arrive you are greeted with a sign that reads 'Closed until further notice'. How would you provide for yourself and your loved ones?
According to computer experts, corporate information officers, congressional leaders and anyone else who has given the matter a fair hearing, this is the scenario that could usher in the new year on January 1st, 2000.
The year 2000 problem, better known as Y2K, will affect computers and millions of other smart devices that have been strewn across the globe since the beginning of the digital revolution.
Will you be caught lacking like the foolish of Matthew 25 who did not provide enough oil for their lamps? or will you be prepared like the wise who did?

Proverbs 22:3 & 27:12

The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it...
